12" single, released in Summer 2017, (with darker blue labels than the original release; which was released on Moonglow Records, supposedly in 1982 [).
'Barely Breaking Even' was recorded as part of the 'LOGG' project for Salsoul Records, but was apparently dropped when the label failed to cough-up the additional funds to complete the track.
Upon the original USA Moonglow 12", the A side John Morales (11:56) mix is incorrectly labelled, it should be labelled as clocking in at about (11:05). I suspect that the track had been edited (the A side fades out just after 11 minutes) to be cut at 45rpm, which didn't happen; the disc plays at 33rpm.
This 2017 release (12:45) is the first time the complete John Morales mixed club version has ever been pressed on vinyl. The A side is cut at 33rpm as the entire track could not feasibly be crammed on the disc cut at 45rpm. The B-side however, at 7:10, fits on the disc comfortably, cut at 45rpm. (A lacquer cut at 45 rpm is preferred, if possible, as the resolution is higher, because more detail is captured in the groove, which is longer). The disc rotates faster at 45rpm than 33rpm (rpm = rounds per minute).
With the A side dissolving into verbal discourse and 'party sounds' as the claps and stabs gradually fade out, this release is technically a revision of the original 12" and not a reissue. (ie it's got the 'proper' ending, as originally intended by the musicians).
